Student laptop sign-up

We are excited to be entering another year of our 1:1 laptop program. Each student in grades 6-12 will be required to have a laptop each day for classroom use. Students and parents have two options for these laptops.

Option 1 - You can choose to have the school issue your student a CFA laptop to use during the school year. The school-issued laptops are for students to use free of charge. Therefore, there is no credit to parents who opt for their child to bring his/her own. The laptops remain the property of Cape Fear Academy and must be returned in working condition along with the charger at the end of the school year or earlier if your student leaves CFA. The school offers an optional school computer protection program that will protect you from loss and damages of the computer.

There are two different computers currently used in the Cape Fear Academy laptop program. They are a 13” Acer Chromebook, or an Acer netbook with an 11” screen. Which one of the two types of computers that your student will be issued is determined by grade level. Both laptops are suitable for everything we do at CFA; however, they are not good for gaming, movie editing, or other processor intensive applications.  Any student who wishes to have a more powerful computer would be advised to use his/her own laptop (choosing option 2).

Option 2 - Your student can bring his/her own laptop to school. Student owned laptops can be Mac or PC. The only requirement is that students bring their laptops to school everyday, have a good battery life, and install Google Chrome as their web browser. We strongly suggest that tablets, (Ipads or Android tablets) not be used as your students primary computer; however, they can be used as a secondary device.

If you would like your student to use a school laptop for the 2016-2017 school year, please visit and complete the online form. Please be sure to review the optional computer protection program and accept or decline coverage. If you have more than one student at CFA and would like to take advantage of the program, please fill out the form once for each student.

        Please update your contact information

The Technology staff hopes everyone is having a great summer! As we get closer to a new school year at Cape Fear Academy, it is time again to make sure that everyone's contact information is up-to-date and accurate. For the 2016-2017 school year we are asking that every CFA family logs into my backpack and checks its contact information. You can make any changes that might be necessary and submit them online.

In the interest of the safety and security of all CFA students, we are asking parents to update their family’s contact information to include their student's cell phone number. Having this information on file gives us an additional way to contact your student in the event of an emergency or security situation.

To log into your MyBackpack account goto: https://mybackpack.capefearacademy.org. If you've forgotten your password, you can use the “I forgot my username or password” link on the login page, or contact us at technology@capefearacademy.org and we will be happy to help. When you have logged in please follow these instructions to
update your contact information.
